The Snowball Effect

If you’ve ever done a little home improvement project, you know that what starts out as one small upgrade can soon become a major mess. It’s the Snowball Effect.

Here is my snowball rolling downhill picking up more to-do’s as it goes:

  • Let’s replace the old, dirty carpeting in the living room
  • And since the main floor is semi-open, let’s replace the kitchen flooring too to make the main level flow (I wanted to use a favorite HGTV phrase).
  • But first, we should paint the kitchen cabinets before we lay new flooring,
  • And we should do the front stairs too,
  • But I should stain the handrails to match the floor and paint the stair spindles before we do that.
  • Oh, and we’ll need a new quartz kitchen counter if we paint the cabinets
  • And we should put in a new back splash.
  • Also we should repaint the kitchen as long as we’re in there (because of that flow thing again).
  • Oh, and let’s be thrifty and ecologically conscious and take up the old kitchen floor and lay it in the art room so I don’t have to paint over carpeting.
  • And the water line to the fridge got cut taking up the old floor so we have to replace that AND we won’t have ice for a few days or a stove. We’ll be eating out for a while.

Ahhhh! Avalanche! All because we wanted to replace the living room carpet.

It’s been hard to post in the midst of everything torn apart. I will keep you posted on our progress and not all projects will be done soon (maybe ever). And if you think this is bad, it’s gotten much worse since I took these photos.

I figure I should show you at least one cute picture. This is my dog napping. Isn’t he darling!

So, enjoy a few pictures of the chaos and be glad that your house probably looks a lot better than mine right now.
